Sod Maintenance Instructions

Sod Maintenance Instructions

THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE PROVIDED TO YOU, OUR VALUED CUSTOMER, TO AID IN THE FULL SATISFACTION OF OUR PRODUCT. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE PROCEDURES WILL VOID OUR 30 DAY REPLACEMENT FROM DATE OF INSTALLATION GUARANTEE

WATERING –

Sod is a perishable and needs to be moist to ensure it’s survival. It is important that sod be watered immediately after installation. Generally, this requires 2-4 hours ( approx. 1 inch ) of watering per day for the first week after installation, 2-3 hours per day every other day for the 2nd week, and 3 times a week for the 3rd week. This is a general rule. Weather conditions, time of year, may require more or less watering. Some areas will require hand watering to achieve proper results. Watering is the responsibility of the customer and sod that does not survive due to lack of watering will not be guaranteed. After the initial 2-3 week rooting period, sod should be watered on a schedule that allows for infrequent and deeper watering ( i.e. every 3-5 days ), but for longer periods of time. This encourages the sod to root deeper, and helps prevent thatch buildup. Shallow watering only encourages thatch and does not aid the plant in times of drought.

MOWING –

It is recommended that fresh sod be mowed when leaf growth reaches 3-4 inches ( generally 10-15 days from install, although this varies with the time of the year ). Watering should be postponed for 1-2 days prior, and the mower should be set at its highest level. Mow slowly and try not to turn on the sod itself. After the initial mow, sod height should be kept at about 2 2 inches.

FERTILIZING and WEED CONTROL –

Generally, no fertilizing or weed control is needed for 6 weeks to 2 months after new sod is laid. At time of sodding, we fertilize and apply a grub worm killer. If grub worms are found at the time of installation, it is recommended that the customer treat the lawn with a grub killer 3 more times thru the growing season ( a total of 4 times a year for up to 3 years afterward ). Median Lawncare is not responsible for grub problems if the guidelines are not met. Normal fertilizing and weed controlling can begin about 6 weeks to 2 months after installation. Typically, a lawn in this climate needs about 4-6 treatments a year of fertilizer and/or weed killer to maintain a healthy appearance. Please follow all suitable product guidelines when applying these products as too much of either can damage or even destroy sod.

TRAFFIC AREAS –

Fresh sod requires 3-4 weeks to become fully rooted, it is recommended that it should not be walked upon within that time frame or it’s survival could be diminished.

Medina Lawncare will not guarantee sod placed on a property that has dog traffic or the presence of such pets. These are general guidelines for the care and maintenance of fresh sod. Medina Lawncare takes great care to provide only the freshest sod, and best installation possible; however, the long term survival of sod depends upon the continual care given by our customer.
